What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in hemp plants. CBD is one of the most recognized and widely studied non-psychoactive cannabinoids. There are over 100 cannabinoids discovered in the hemp plant that are being scientifically investigated for their health benefits. The two most well-known are CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the cannabinoid responsible for causing an intoxicating effect when consumed.

Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all cannabis plants and account for most of the benefits of cannabis. Cannabinoids found in plants are technically called phytocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which promotes homeostasis.

Cannabinoid receptors located throughout the body are part of the endocannabinoid system, which is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, mood, metabolism, hormone regulation, immune response, and memory. The purpose of this system is to help our body stay balanced and the receptors play a crucial role in regulating and balancing many body processes such as immune response, communication between cells, sleep cycles, memory, and more.

CBD oil is a natural oil extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is used by people all over the world for a variety of purposes. There are three extract types: 1) Full Spectrum, which contains all components of the plant (terpenes, CBD, THC, etc.); 2) Broad Spectrum which consists of the entire plant with the THC removed; and 3) CBD Isolate, which is the purest form of CBD as it only contains CBD.

Full Spectrum CBD products are created by extracting oil from the whole hemp plant. It contains naturally occurring cannabinoids (including <0.3% THC), terpenes, flavonoids, and natural plant oils. These compounds work together synergistically, enhancing the benefits of CBD. In fact, Scientists found that these plant compounds have a better effect on the body when they work together, rather than alone. This means that CBD and all those other great compounds can support the body more fully than just CBD.

Broad Spectrum CBD products are similar to Full Spectrum. However, they are further refined to separate the THC from the hemp extract, making them THC-free (0.0% THC). Broad Spectrum is ideal for those who prefer not to consume any THC.

Full spectrum CBD includes all the compounds of the hemp plant i.e. CBD, Flavonoids, Natural Plant Oils, Terpenes, and Cannabinoids (including up to 0.3% THC). Broad spectrum is the same, just without any THC.

CBD Isolate is created by removing all plant compounds and oils, except CBD, from the Full Spectrum extract making it 99.9% pure CBD. However, since it’s a single compound powder, it does not harness the synergistic effects that Full or Broad Spectrum CBD offer.

Terpenes are another group of chemical compounds found in hemp plants and are an essential group of aromatic compounds that give plants their unique fragrance. They’re present in nearly every plant on earth, and anything you can sense and smell from a plant is due to the terpenes present in the plant.

Flavonoids are a group of phytonutrients found in all sorts of fruits, flowers, vegetables, and of course, cannabis & hemp. The primary function of flavonoids is to serve as cell messengers and is also known for giving the plant pigment. Scientists have identified thousands of them throughout nature, and some are known to be only found in cannabis and hemp. The flavonoids found in hemp and marijuana are called cannaflavins.

Cannabinoids work synergistically with each other and are more effective when they are found together versus when they are isolated. It is the theory that the interaction between all of the compounds from a cannabis plant, such as phytocannabinoids and terpenes, come together to enhance their effects. Our Full Spectrum products are highly concentrated in CBD and contain significant amounts of additional cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, CBC, terpenes, and more.

This is the final form of CBGA, that is, the precursor of the main cannabinoids – THCA, CBDA, and CBCA. CBG is the main element that the other cannabinoids are created from, hence being commonly referred to as the ‘stem cell’ or ‘mother of cannabinoids’.
